Heyyy guys it’s Air!

I know I’m about a week late for the final Four Days of Fashion Week post, but better late than never right? My boy Drake would say ‘but never late is better’ and he is right so sorry guys, I will do better. I missed my final show for fashion week this year because I wasn’t prepared, so I wanted to share some of the lessons I learned the hard way. I read a ton of blogs with advice prior to this magical week of festivities (which I highly recommend doing in advance) and there were some tips I took and some I didn’t, but overall here’s what I felt to be most important:

1) Start Preparing Months in Advance.

I’m a member of StyleCollective and I am so incredibly grateful for all of the resources that are available to us to help us prepare for fashion week!  They provide you with a timeline of when you should start making arrangements for accommodations, when and how you should start your outreach to brands, and even when to start planning your outfits (a really underrated thing to add to your checklist that I definitely think you should do in advance.) SC sisters also will share contact information for outreach as well as a ton of other helpful tips, so I highly recommend joining this community. If you’re interested in joining, you can do that here.

If you’re out there on your own, I just suggest planning as much as you can in advance so by the time fashion week arrives, you can just enjoy attending events and shows without being frazzled.

2) Make Sure Your Bag is Stocked!

  • comfy shoes
  • your camera/phone
  • extra batteries/chargers for above devices
  • your show schedule
  • WATER
  • SNACKS
  • items for makeup and hair touchups (cameras are EVERYWHERE)

3) Don’t Overbook Yourself and Know When to Say No

Living in New York, I’d say my fashion week experience was likely pretty different from someone who was traveling from out of town, especially in the sense that the rest of my life wasn’t stopping so I could attend shows and events. This means that I also had to balance going to work, and in my case, attending several job interviews. I knew in advance that this stuff was going to be going on so I booked what I consider to be a very light schedule (5 shows, 1 event). However, I wasn’t prepared in a few other aspects of life at the time which resulted in some stress (hence tip #1) that was an unnecessary addition to an already generally stressful balancing of life events. As a result, I started to get sick; and due to the importance of the other events going on in my life, I had to cut some things out of my schedule.

Fashion week is a beautiful and magical time, but it’s important to remember that it’s supposed to be something fun and enjoyable!  If you’re stressed out because you’re running from show to show and you’re overbooked and missing events, you’re not really making the most of your experience. I think that’s one of the biggest takeaways from all of this.

What is your most important fashion week tip? Share it with me below!  I would say I’m allllllmost just about recovered from both fashion week and life events that seemed to pile up on me this month, and am so excited to share with you what’s going on.  Talk soon! Kitty Kisses xo

THE BIG DAY!

Taoray Wang was my first and only show at the main location where a majority of the shows were hosted. It’s crazy because standing in line to get into the show was an absolute nightmare and I was like, “why am I even putting myself through this?” I was starting to get sick at this point so my tolerance for the shoving and the pompous, entitled fashion week attitudes was extremely low. BUT we finally got in AND I WAS UPGRADED TO RUNWAY SEATING! I have no idea how this happened but I have to say that it was one of the coolest things I have ever experienced.  I ended up sitting next to Jeannie Mae who I grew up watching on the Style Network and is currently a co-host on The Real. She is so beautiful and down to earth and just absolutely incredible. Now for the actual show, granted I only ended up seeing two, this was hands down my favorite collection. I loved every single piece and would wear it all. The website says her clothes are designed for the powerful, professional and modern woman who wants to be stylish, elegant, and sexy. UM hello?! Perfection!   After the show was over I met up with my new friend Laura from Laura Morsman Photography for a quick post-show shoot. I had absolutely no idea that I was going to attract so many cameras! I did two interviews for two separate companies from China, had several photographer’s approach me for street style shots, and ICYMI, had some features from big names like Essence and Refinery29. This day was like a dream come true. Absolutely unreal.

I’m realizing that this really is my last post, because the next day I was sick in bed literally all day haha. So stay tuned tomorrow for my final thoughts and what I will and will NOT be doing next year.

Annnd we’re back with Day 2!

I didn’t have any shows on my second day, but I did have the StyleCollective Party! So unfortunately, there were a lot of mishaps with the party this year.  This was the first time that they hosted a night time gathering instead of a brunch so there were a lot of kinks to be worked out. I must say that although several things went wrong (they ran out of wine, cocktail popsicles, and swag bags, to name a few things) I do feel like I got my money’s worth and had a great time with some of my blogger friends.  To start the night off, I got an incredible gel manicure with foil FOR FREE in the VIP area! Honestly, this was enough to make up the cost of my ticket alone! I love the shape of my nails and my manicurist did an incredible job and was so patient with me despite my indecision (#libraprobs). Since I was coming from that important meeting I told you guys about in last night’s post, I was fresh faced and excited to get my make-up done for free as well! StyleCollective hired this really cool company called BeGlammed, who sends top rated hairstylists and makeup artists to your home. I thought this was a super cool concept and all of the stylists were incredibly nice. I just decided that I’m going to include a gift card for their services in my giveaway. If you haven’t entered yet, uh..what are you waiting for?  You better go ahead and do that here.  The rest of the night was filled with a lot of rosé sipping, taco eating, chatting, and picture taking. Honestly, the time was flying by so quickly it got late before I knew it!

I’ve so enjoyed being a part of a community of beautiful and inspiring women and turning online friends into real friends <3 if you’re interested in joining StyleCollective, let me know in the comments below and I’ll hook it up!
