Welcome, welcome, WELCOME to my new segment on the blog, Air Traffic Control!  This will be the place where you can find product reviews that will hopefully direct you toward new things you’ll love and keep you away from products causing unnecessary traffic jams!  I’m excited to start off the segment with a set of products I’ve wanted to try since they first came out: the L’Oreal EverCreme Moisture Care System!

I remember seeing these products on the shelves at CVS and I was super excited to see “SULFATE FREE” in big bold letters on the front. This was a good way to appeal to the curly/natural hair community, but I was little suspicious about its claim for triple action hydration. ALSO…have any of you ever used hair products with apricot oil?  In all of the things that I’ve read about oils that naturals use, I don’t think I’ve ever heard of anyone using apricot oil!  If you know anything about its moisturizing properties, please leave comments down below!  The same goes for gardenia, I actually love the smell of gardenias but I don’t think I’ve ever used gardenia hair products? Despite my suspicions, the products smelled INCREDIBLE!  If you go back and read my advice for picking out products for your regimen in the huge sea of products that exist out there, you’ll see I picked stuff that I actually wanted to smell like, so this is a huge bonus in my book.

Now for the products…

I started out with the Renourishing Butter I loved that the container mentions you can use this as a co-wash, it shows they’re finally starting to think about the curly girl 🙂 I followed their suggestion and put it in as a detangler for co-washing and ended up following up with the Deep Nourish shampoo, but I think this saved the shampoo from just completely drying out my hair. As far as shampoos go, I feel like this one did its job? There really wasn’t anything to write home about. I felt like my hair was more dry than it would’ve been had I used a shampoo formulated for natural or curly hair.  The Deep Nourish conditioner has a pretty good thickness but just wasn’t enough moisture for me at the end of the day! However, I was impressed with the littile bit of curl definition I had following my wash! That was a nice bonus, but overall I need more from a conditioner and felt like I needed to follow up with a really heavy leave in deep conditioner.  With that being the case, I followed up with the Renourishing Butter after the conditioner as suggested for extra moisture and I think that helped too.  Overall I think this is a pretty good product for what it’s worth, but I don’t think I’d trade any of my cowashes or detanglers made for natural hair to use it. It didn’t provide as much definition and moisture as I needed. This was definitely my favorite product of the set though, and I say that type 4 curls might be able to get away with using this if you’re in a pinch!

Overall, I’d say these products are pretty good for what they are worth but most likely won’t work for anyone with type 4 curls or hair that is prone to dryness. If you’ve tried these products, I’d love to hear your thoughts down below!

A huge thank you to Influenster for sending me these products free for testing purposes, however, all opinions are always my own!

I’ve been sitting on these liquid lipsticks for quite some time thinking I would make a video, but I think this will be just as good!! So I think about a year or so ago now (tbh I’m not really sure), NYX released their collection of 12 sexy, long-lasting, matte liquid lipsticks in a collection that they called NYX Lingerie (get it?? Lingerie…nudes..it’s clever!!). If you are wanting to participate in the matte nude trend, I highly highly recommend you add some (or all) of these to your collection! Not only are they long-lasting with incredible color payoff, BUT THEY ARE SO AFFORDABLE AT AROUND $7 a tube!! You know you can count on NYX to always come thruuuuu with the great products at drugstore prices, and this collection is proof of that. So I initially wanted to purchase every single one, but when I went to Ulta they didn’t have all of them in stock. I also quickly realized that a lot of the shades are extremely similar with slight nuances. I picked 5 of the 12, and you’ll (hopefully) see some of those nuances in the colors that I picked. I didn’t wear liner with any of them so you could get a clear image of what you were getting in terms of shade, but adding liner to these gives you that perfect Kylie lip and helps some of the lighter pinks to not look so pasty/washed out. This really is high on my list of best drugstore products that keep you on trend with some money still in your wallet!

Let me know your favorite NYX Lingerie shades in the comments below!!

WHAT’S UP YOU GUYS?!

Before I even get into the bulk of this post, let’s talk a little bit about idioms.  I’m going to be completely honest and say that sometimes idioms are extremely confusing to me, especially when I am clueless about the origin.  For example, the idiom I used in my title above, what the heck is blazing a trail?!  My outdoors-y boyfriend is probably shaking his head at me right now, but I had to look up what trailblazing was!  So the phrase as an idiom is used to talk about someone or something that is pioneering the way for other people to follow.  The real definition of trailblazing has to do with marking trails by carving things called blazes into trees so other people can follow your lead.  According to the all-knowing Wiki, people are apparently looking for new methods to blaze that are more environmentally and aesthetically friendly.  What an incredibly perfect-amazing-wonderful segue to JORD Watches!

If you’ve never heard of JORD, they’re a company that specializes in men’s and women’s wooden watches.  If that wasn’t cool enough, all of their wood is collected in sustainable ways from tree species that are either endangered or at risk as defined by the IUCN.  So while you are sporting a beautiful, modern timepiece, you can spark a discussion about some species that need a lil extra TLC from the human race!  I especially enjoyed perusing the JORD website to learn more about the qualities of the wood my watch was made from, as well as where the wood came from. I ended up choosing the Fieldcrest Watch which is made from Dark Sandalwood, a vulnerable species from East Africa.  It was a really tough choice, but I fell in love with this deep, chocolate-y brown!  I used the sizing tool on the website and I am still shocked at how accurate and perfect it got my watch size!  It’s such a hassle buying things online and not knowing how they will fit, especially things like watches.  This online tool completely eliminates that stress and I am extremely impressed.  I also think it’s worth mentioning that for a wooden watch, it is extremely light weight!

Aside from the watch being a work of art in itself, the packaging just..blew me away!  My beautiful wooden storage case with custom monogrammed JORD pillow and cleaning cloth just really speaks to the quality and elegance of the watch. Also included in your packaging is your warranty card that guarantees your watch has been checked for defects and was made new just for you!  The attention to detail is what really sold me on the JORD brand.

THINK WOODEN WATCHES!!  I’m actually so obsessed with mine, and it’s the perfect summer accessory!! I was just in California at a winery with my family (one of my most favorite summer activities), and it was the hot topic of discussion! I must say, I felt like the glass of wine in my hand looked much more elegant with a nice looking watch on my wrist 😉
