I remember the first time I visited the StyleCollective website when I initially started blogging 3 almost 4 years ago, and I wanted to join so badly. I loved the idea of being a part of a blogger network to meet other bloggers and swap resources and ideas, especially when I was just getting started and had no idea what I was doing. At the time, you had to apply to join and I was way too intimidated to do so. Flash forward to now, I finally took the leap to join and I am so incredibly happy that I did! I had my first meet-up with other NYC StyleCollective sisters this past week and it immediately felt like we were a family.  All of the conversations were so easy and everyone was so excited to exchange ideas and tips. Like, I can’t reiterate enough how incredibly cool it was to be in a room full of beautiful women who were eager to lift each other up and form relationships as opposed to competing and tearing each other down; but that’s what StyleCollective is all about! It’s incredibly refreshing and I feel so blessed to be a part of such an inspiring group of women.

We were hosted by the lovely Ann Taylor flagship store at Rockefeller Center and they did an incredible job of lining up a beautiful spread for us filled with cupcakes from Magnolia Bakery and fancy Voss water! They also provided us with stylists to help us shop and utilize the wonderful 40% off our total purchase discount that was exclusive for the members of StyleCollective (and this was on top of the other great sales they had going on in the store at the moment!!). After a couple of hours of fellowship, shopping, a raffle, and an ADORABLE parting gift from Ann Taylor, my first SC event came to an end.

I left feeling so inspired and again, really blessed and grateful. I’m so looking forward to seeing what other opportunities come from being a part of this wonderful group of women, and I’m sure you will be hearing a lot more about StyleCollective and my experiences moving forward.

It’s so funny to me that to this day when people hear you’re going to Woodstock, NY they automatically assume you’re going to some insane, crazy, concert like the one in the 60’s.  How freaking incredible did that concert have to be for that STILL to be what people think about whenever they hear Woodstock??

Needless to say, I did not attend any crazy concerts while in Woodstock but I absolutely fell in love with the city.  There’s so much charm and personality and it’s breathtakingly beautiful. I’m obsessed with the Hudson Valley (if you’ve never been, you really have to go at some point!!) and Woodstock is amazing because it’s only a little under 2 hours away from NYC!  How is that possible?!!?  A little oasis that is so easy to get to. Mav and I mostly just chilled while we were here, but we took some time to look at some of the stores and restaurants in the main town. We ate at the same incredible restaurant called Shindig for the two meals we ate out while we were there (they had GF brioche buns, OMG drool…) and then just took some time to unwind from crazy city life. Guys, I can’t remember the last time I felt so inspired to just write and create while I was here.  I had the opportunity to wake up and play the piano while overlooking the beautiful mountain and forest view. Like, holy breathtaking!! I have to say that it really jump started the inspiration for a lot of the cool things I’m working on and I hope to share that journey with y’all soon.  Please, let me know in the comments if there are places I need to make sure to stop by the next time I go because believe me, there will definitely be a next time!

HAPPY BLACK HISTORY MONTH!!

I wanted to take a real quick second to just drop these pictures I took from the incredible Black Fashion Designers exhibit put on by the lovely people at FIT.  Apparently this has been running since December 6th of last year and will remain at the museum until May 16th of this year. I had absolutely no idea (sheesh I really have to get out and do more) and in case you didn’t either, you have a lot of time to go check it out! This would make a great addition to your list of Black History Month activities!

They do a beautiful job of covering generations of work from designers of African descent and also shed some light on how race has previously and currently affects fashion. With black designers only making up approximately 1% of designers covered by VogueRunway.com (the most comprehensive website online for viewing fashion week collections from around the world,) it is quite apparent that we still unfortunately have a ways to go in equality in the fashion realm. There were some recognizable designs worn by celebrities like Kim Kardashian and I was shocked that the designers weren’t more widely recognized!

I’m so incredibly proud of where I come from and feel so honored to share in the rich culture and expression that stem from generations of struggle and oppression. We are a brilliant, talented, beautiful group of people and I think this exhibit does a good job of sharing that with the world. If you’re in NYC, especially midtown west, stop by and check it out! How many other times in your life will you be in the presence of an Olivier Rousteing gown (drooooooool.)

On a sort of different note, it was very interesting to me to photograph just clothes on mannequins?  It inspired me to really start working on my photography which I think is kind of cool!  Stay tuned for more posts and comments on that!

Does anyone else have any cool ideas for ways to celebrate/appreciate Black History Month?  Let me know in the comments below!

Until Next Time!
